Romanian National Speedskater to Train in Kansas City
Romanian National Speedskater, Bianca Anghel will be in Kansas City beginning October 25, 2005 to repair and rehabilitate a knee
injury she suffered in early March. Her hope is to be ready in time for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
Dr. John Vani of Orthopaedic Professional Association will assess the injury and determine what steps are required to get Anghel
back to competitive racing. While in Kansas City she will train at Ice Sports Arena, located at 19900 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, KS.
Please contact Steve Nitzel for a list of her training times and schedule.
In addition, she will teach Learn-to-Skate programs that are offered through the arena. The four-week-program costs only $50 and
includes skate rental.
Her 2005 season seemed a disappointment from her 2004 finish when she rose as high as 5th overall at the 2004 Junior World
Championships. Labeled the fastest human sport on a level surface without technical devices, speedskaters can reach speeds of up to
35 miles per hour. In Europe it’s known as Formula One Racing for human beings. Anghel had been picked by racing experts as one the
newest superstars in speedskating.
"We’re very pleased that Anghel has picked Ice Sports of Kansas City as a place to train," said Ice Sports Arena General Manager Dave
Groulx. "Speedskating is something new for us, but we wanted to open our doors to this opportunity and I’m looking forward to working
with her."
